A Sad Note in My Heart

There was a quote I found recently that rang true and left a sad note in my heart.

Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them. –Thoreau

I was curious about the many songs that are going to the grave and why this desperation so quiet in men. I would love to know. I do know that finding what is best in me and bringing it out in the world is a continual and often scary process. But the rewards are in proportion to the effort. All that is good and valuable in my life has come from this process.

Another quote by Thoreau to bring out the song in your heart.

I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. . . . In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. –Thoreau
